A rare evening in NorCal to hear Stephen Kent perform a solo concert of Didge and Percussion (with stories & witty asides!)
I remember a time, way waaaay back now, when I was pretty much the only Balanda (Whitefella) out in the world with a didge - or it certainly seemed like it. Now, of course it seems that everybody's dad, uncle, friend, sister, kid, teacher and pet pig plays too, and maybe the reflected shine of what this compelling and extraordinary instrument is capable of creating has got a bit lost in the forest by now.
AND... I'm still playing.
Along with the profound experience I had living in Australia that set me on this path, the didgeridoo forms the center of my participation in myriad musical collaborations, whether it be with band projects Trance Mission and Baraka Moon, or with the Del Sol Quartet, R.Carlos Nakai or many other extraordinary musicians in countless musical genres I have been blessed to play and create with over the years. In each situation I know I have signature sounds and style, and I also try to approach each musical meeting open to the moment and to serve the muse of the music. But it's when I play alone that the true depth and breadth of my epic story with this One Note Orchestra can come into being. The Wu Wei Tea Temple is a truly intimate venue to experience this type of connectedness. I am looking forward.
